    2. This was my era, and my enviornment growing up in Oklahoma in the thirties and forties. I witnessed so much of this story first hand. It moves me more than any book I have ever read and the authenticity is brutally honest, and I found myself reliving so many things from my childhood.The issues of segregation, brutality and hate mongering were so truthfully portrayed, I was transported into the activity.     3. I enjoyed reading this book. It seemed to have much better detail than the movie, which is usually the case. But, of course I watched the movie before reading the book so I found the book all the more interesting.
