    1. L.J LaBarthe is an Australian woman living with disabilities and her cat She has always loved books, music, and daydreaming She has written stories since childhood, often drawing pictures to accompany her tales She won a competition for drawing a picture of Australian Humpty Dumpty, complete with Aussie hat when she was a young child The drawing was accompanied by an adventure story with Humpty Dumpty she wrote set in Australia From that moment on, she has not looked back. She spends her free time watching television and is an unashamed fan of Supernatural, Spartacus and Game of Thrones She reads newspapers online for fun and loves a good novel She loves to cook and enjoys a snifter of absinthe from time to time.L.J would like to take a moment to let her university professor in creative writing know that knowledge of iambic pentameter isn t necessary in order to be able to enjoy the craft of writing, no matter how much he may have screamed to the contrary.

    2. This is one of those historicals that make it clear how little people have changed over the last thousand years or so. While the setting of Constantinople is different (and a little exotic) and the war Gallienus was involved and wounded in may be long over, the basic need for human companionship and love has not changed. I really liked the slow build between Gallienus (who tells the story) and Misahuen, the careful approach and loving way they got together. And, up until the very end, the story [...]

    3. I actually started out reading City of Jade, which contains City of Gold as a prequel to the story. Once I read the prequel, I realized the story was different from what I expected. I liked City of Gold as a charming story between a soldier of Constantinople and a Korean man following a merchant. However, there's a lot more telling in the development of their relationship than showing. Therefore, their proclamation of love seemed to happen pretty suddenly and without conflict. Once again, the st [...]

    4. This is so not the type of book I would typically read, but it is part of a challenge that I've committed to so I pressed on. I was pleasantly surprised. I have zero interest in historical fiction but this book was really about 2 men falling in love for the first time, a theme that transcends all eras throughout history. So, while the beginning was slow for me, with the descriptors of the historical setting and culture, it was not too long until I got to know the two main characters and I enjoye [...]

    5. I enjoyed this very much. Though the story is short, it's very sweet, and makes me look forward to reading more about the two characters. LJ's familiarity with the location and time also helps build the atmosphere and little details like the dim candle light in the bedroom scene paint lovely imagery. My only "complaint" is that I want more and don't want to wait :)

    6. Among war time 2 people find love and they leave their worries behide and ride of to where they find happiness
